Text 1 Mar Obscure Architecture Term of the Day (OATD)

I think we’re due for another of Moe Tassoudji’s OATD’s! Today’s term is:

Espagnolette:

A tilt-turn locking device found in swinging casements. It is typically found in French doors or casement windows, and often decorative. By pulling the handle, the rod rotates, and the sockets catch the head and sill of the opening. You can also find them latching closed the rear doors of semi-trailer trucks.

espagnolette

It reminds me of the doors at the Royal Sonesta in New Orleans!
